DG VITICULTORS, S.L. is a company created in 2006, with the aim to make wine that would reflect the special character of these vineyards, grown in such particular soil and climate, through the guidance of Pedro Domenech with the support of Antonio García Blasco.
The story of DG VITICULTORS, S.L. would not exist without the properties where the grapevines grow, Mas Fonoll and Sapera. Both located within the area of Pontons in the wine growing district of Alt Penedes (Barcelona, Spain). Mas Fonoll was acquired by Pedro’s father, Jaume Domenech Trinchant, in 1991 and Sapera in 1992.
The story of DG VITICULTORS, S.L. is intimately intertwined with the story of the land of Mas Fonoll and Sapera and, also the story of the people that made the vineyards possible through their dedication: Jaime Doménech Trinchant, who believed in the project of growing grapevines on a hard land of extreme climate. His son, Santiago Domenech Garay, that gave continuity to this enterprise with the help of Santiago Gómez Carreras who, as foreman, devoted all of his efforts to transform this land into a grapevine growing operation of extraordinary appeal and whose work is being continued since his death by our current foreman, Mr. Joan Vernet.
Gathering the experience from 16 years of growing grapes plus the knowledge of the land, its soil, its climate and knowledge of the performance of the different grape varieties planted, DG VITICULTORS, S.L. sets its goal to offer its customers the best wines their vineyards can yield.
The vinyards of Mas Fonoll and Mas Sapera are located within the town limits of Pontons, a small village in the Alt Panades, in the province of Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. Mas Fonoll and Mas Sapera are two mountain properties at heights between 2.130 and 2.800 feet above sea level.
The area of Sapera extends itself alongside a small valley at the foot of the cliff upon which Mas Fonoll lies. Together they make up some 54 ha. of vineyard out of a total property of over 200 ha.. Of those 54 ha. Sapera holds up to 14ha. while the remaining 40ha. are in mas Fonoll.
Grape varieties: Mas Fonoll (mass- foo-noi): Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon blanc, Albariño. Sapera (sah-peh-rah) : Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc, Albariño and Loureiro.
Characteristics of the soil: It is all of loam-clay structure, each different with varying proportions of stone or gravel. As a whole the soil is poor and shallow and abundant in clay.
Climate: Cold which delays the germination of the plants and favors their late maturity.
