On February 9th we celebrated the 19th edition of CATALAN WINES USA in Washington DC. The event took place at the Loft 600 F, located at the Loft 600 F Street, NW in Washington DC.
As in the previous editions, the CATALAN WINES USA event consisted of a Seminar and a Walk-Around Tasting served with some Catlalan tapas. The event was open to the wine professionals of the Washington DC Metropolitan Area. This time we collaborated with the Catalan Tourist Board, which promoted the culinary and wine tours of the most prestigious wine regions of Catalonia.
The Seminar went from 2PM to 3PM and the Wine Tasting from 3PM to 6PM. The seminar speaker was the Catalan Sommelier (formerly of elBulli restaurant) Lucas Payà, who has a wide knowledge Catalonia and its wines and has been in the wine business in the US for many years.
The event set an attendance record of more than 130 attendees, the highest of the 19 events that have been organized around the US. CATALAN WINES USA has hosted its events in 14 different American States (AZ, CA, DC, FL, GA, IL, MA, MD, NJ, PR, TX, VA, WA) to this day.
10 different wineries from Catalonia presented their wines at our Seminar and Wine Tasting. The group of selected wineries presented 3 wines each. The wineries that participated in the Washington DC event were the following:
- Big 5 (Mas Ramoneda, Celler Grifoll Declara, Agricola Sant Josep) – DO Costers del Segre, Montsant and Terra Alta
- Ca n’Estella – DO Cava and Penedès
- Canals & Munné – DO Cava
- Celler Ronadelles – DO Montsant
- De Muller – DOQ Priorat and Tarragona
- Mas Bertran – DO Penedès
- Mas Rodó – DO Penedès
- Nadal – DO Cava and Penedès
For the first time, CATALAN WINES USA organized a Wine Pairing Lunch for some importers and distributors of the Washington DC Metropolitan Area on February 8th. The selected venue was the renowned DC Spanish tapas restaurant of the chef José Andrés, the Jaleo Restaurant. The lunch included a 6-course menu, designed by its executive chef and sommelier, Ramon Martínez and Jordi Paronella. The menu was Catalan-inspired and each dish was accompanied by a wine or a cava carefully chosen. 7 US importers attended the lunch and had the chance to taste 6 different wines from the wineries presenting at the CATALAN WINES USA 19th Edition.
