Celler Serra Major is a cellar in Montsant region, located in a small village called Ulldemolins, wich is the northest village in the Montsant, and the highest town too. Theese geographic characteristics make the red wines different to other producers.
One of the particularities of our grapes is that they grow from 700 meters above the see level, this fact, make us the only producer at this altitudes in the hole region of The Priorat. The altitude factor obviously is important from the point of view of the weather and provides the grapes of a characteristic taste.
We also are the only producer located in the north face of the Montsant mountain, and as our neighbours of The Priorat the soil in which our vineyards grow is maid of pieces of slate mineral “licorella”.
The vines in average are older than twenty years and are working in traditional way without using heavy machines and modern additives.
The D.O. Montsant is a land where, for centuries, its natural environment and its wines have been intricately linked and where the old vines, cared for as if they were real treasures, are the veritable pillars of the region’s history. The protagonists of this history in the making are now enthusiastically looking forward to a new future.
Our target is to elaborate high quality wines with an accessible price.
