Rising up around the village of Capçanes, on steep slopes and terraces, our vines are protected by the mountain range of Llaberia here at DO Montsant, southwest from Barcelona, in the Priorat hills. We work predominantly with our two indigenous varietals Garnacha Negra and Cariñena of high altitude and low yielding mostly bush vines. Some of them are up to 110 years old. On mineral stony Slate, Limestone and Clay soils our vines are developing highly concentrated fruit intensity and a unique flavor profile.

What started as an adventure for a few farmers is now a winery that keeps growing bigger, but also carrying that unique identity from its people and land. At Capçanes we like to do things differently. Under the supervision of the Rabbi of Barcelona we have been making kosher wines, for 25 years now. Here we practice virgin, artisanal, conscience winemaking somehow like 2500 years ago. Further on, we abandoned all animal origin based finings on our reds becoming the first and by today only vegan certified producer in Montsant. In 2007 we passed 40 ha into organic farming, EU-CCPAE and US-NOP certified.

Our highly awarded wines are showing top end winemaking at any price point. We go for complexity and elegance based on indigenous varieties. Our wide range includes nicely priced young, semi-crianza, single vineyard and old vines wines, as well as olive oil vermouth and cava.

All this we have achieved thanks to our Capçanes farmers and our amazing cellar team, by the way we are 100% Estate bottled and only work our own grapes. Winemaking head of the team is Anna Rovira, who was just called to be the Best Woman Winemaker of the World in 2019!
